Five Reasons Why You Should Take an ACLS Recert Practice Test

Every two years, healthcare professionals with ACLS training are required to get recertified. This means brushing up on previously learned techniques, getting updated on new protocols, and mentally preparing yourself to take your recertification exam. If you haven’t considered taking a practice test prior to your exam, here are five reasons why you should.

1. An online ACLS recert practice test is a convenient and efficient way to study.
Because healthcare professionals seeking ACLS recertification are not required to take an in-person skills test, taking an online recertification course is the most efficient and effective option. With an online course, you can complete the work at your own pace. Similarly, taking an online ACLS recert practice test is an easy way to prepare for the recertification exam on your own time.

2. Your skills may be a little rusty.
As a healthcare professional, you may use many protocols learned from ACLS training on a daily basis. However, it is important to brush up on techniques and sequences that you use less frequently. Taking a practice test is a good way to identify the areas you need to focus on in order to ace your recertification test and, more importantly, be prepared to save lives.

3. Are you well-versed in the new guidelines?
In order to keep protocols up to date, the American Heart Association reevaluates guidelines for ACLS care every five years – 2010 marks the most recent update. The recommendations are meant to improve the quality of care provided by healthcare professionals. ACLS recert practice test questions will help reinforce your knowledge of the new guidelines in preparation for your recertification exam.

4. Practice makes perfect.
Studying will help you learn and retain information, but a practice test will help you feel prepared for the exam itself. A practice test is developed to be similar to an actual recertification exam, and requires you to complete it in a set amount of time. After taking the practice test, you are immediately given the correct answers to the questions you got wrong, equipping you with the resources to get it right when it really counts. Here are a few examples of the types of questions you might see on the practice test.

  • An AED unit has been appropriately placed on a woman who has collapsed and has no pulse. The unit reports that a shock is needed. After everyone is cleared from the patient, a shock is applied. Which action is indicated next?
    • Check the patient’s pulse.
    • Remove the AED pads.
    • Resume CPR.
    • Turn off the AED.
  • Which of the following is not a risk factor that increases the risk of stroke?
    • Hypertension
    • Atrial fibrillation
    • Daily aspirin usage
    • Diabetes mellitus

5. It’s affordable.
