Aced Your ACLS Exam? Four Reasons to Study Smart and Take a PALS Pre Exam

So you aced your ACLS exam, and now you’re preparing to earn your PALS certification. As a healthcare professional with one healthcare certification under your belt, you may feel very confident about the PALS exam. But that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t make your best effort to study. Here are four reasons why you should study smart and take a PALS pre exam.

1. Many protocols for treating children differ from ACLS.

PALS certification equips healthcare professionals to recognize and treat cardiopulmonary arrest in infants and children through a systematic approach. Many of the protocols for treating children and infants are different from protocols for adults, including techniques for CPR and automated external defibrillator (AED) use. It is important to study up and know the key differences.

2. Have guidelines changed since you took your last health certification course?

Every five years, the American Heart Association releases updated guidelines for healthcare protocols – the most recent updates were released in late 2010. You can brush up on the newest PALS guidelines by taking a PALS pre exam – 2011, 2012 and 2013 certification exams will follow the most recent guidelines.

3. Not passing your certification test can mean more time and possibly more money.

In the event that you do not pass your PALS certification exam, you may or may not be allowed to retake the test without paying more (Health Ed Solutions allows individuals to retake the test one time at no additional charge). If you do not pass the second time, you will have to pay additional fees. Preparing with a PALS pre exam is a great way to save yourself the time and money, and get it right on your first try.

4. Certification means learning how to save a life.

The main goal behind becoming PALS certified is to learn how to save children’s lives. It is important to be well versed in PALS protocols not simply to pass the test, but also to be prepared to take action in an emergency situation when accuracy and the ability to think quickly matter most.
