Every two years, healthcare professionals with advanced cardiac life support (ACLS) certification must recertify in order to stay up to date on the best practices and new findings within the emergency care field.
With the American Heart Association’s (AHA) self-directed, comprehensive e-learning program, HeartCode® ACLS Part 1, healthcare professionals can save time and money while staying current on ACLS certification and recertification.
What is HeartCode® ACLS?
HeartCode® ACLS is an interactive three-part course designed to provide healthcare professionals with the competencies to effectively perform advanced emergency cardiac care.
Part one is a cognitive portion, offering 10 realistic patient scenarios that cover the ACLS algorithms, a team dynamics lesson and a written exam.
Parts two and three enable healthcare professionals to practice their skills and complete a skills check with an AHA instructor or voice-assisted manikin system. All course participants must successfully complete both the cognitive portion of the course and complete the skills check before receiving their official AHA ACLS provider card. Skills check providers may charge additional fees for this service.
What can I expect to learn in my HeartCode® ACLS cert and recert course?
Realistic patient scenarios, instant and objective feedback and instructional videos all help course participants understand ACLS tasks and perfect their life-saving skills in real time.
After completing the course, participants should be able to:
- Recognize and manage respiratory arrest and cardiac arrest.
- Recognize and initiate early management of periarrest conditions, acute coronary syndromes and stroke.
- Comfortably and proficiently provide basic life support (BLS) care, including chest compressions and automated external defibrillator (AED) use.
- Effectively communicate as a member or leader of a resuscitation team.
The next time a colleague asks, “What is HeartCode® ACLS?” you’ll be able to explain it and list the benefits of this new option. With its entirely self-directed approach, HeartCode® ACLS is a viable option for busy healthcare professionals.
